i need help. i have a 94 ford escort lx with 150,000 miles and it sounds like the engines popping when your driving and sometimes when your idling, just changed plugs, gas filter, pvc valve, air filter. still seems to be running the same way. also there is no check engine light. could it be a fuel injection problem? iv added dry gas and injector cleaner to a full tank of gas a couple of times and still no results. please help

Ok, I just got a 1999 ford escort with around 160,000 miles on it and it was driving fine when when the car suddenly wouldn’t go over 45mph. I then pulled over and white smoke was coming out of the exhaust. I got someone to bring it back to the house. It would turn over but not start and the service engine light was coming on. I changed the oil, put in new wires that go to the spark plugs, and a new battery. The car then started fine, but it would cut off while idling. I was told to just take it for a short test drive and it would be fine because some cars did that when a new battery has been put in. While on the test drive, the car just completely cut off without warning. Again when I tried to crank it, it would turn over but not start. No white smoke this time. It is currently on the side of the road, and if anyone could help I would greatly appreciate it.
